      Hello Pat 14
My name is Lynne and I had an auto SCT on June 1, 2012. It was certainly not as bad as I was afraid it was going to be but still not an easy experience. The hospital where I had my procedure was wonderful and my team of doctors and nurses made it much easier. My adult children were allowed to stay with me and I only spent about 4 nights alone of the 14 I was there.
Most hospitals have a patient handbook which you might look into as each hospital has their oen Procedures.
What questions do you have and I would be happy to answer them. There are so many aspects to it that it would be easier to answer your concerns than write a general piece. So please just ask away and I will answer as will others. This is a great site to get all your questions snswered!!

Thank you so much for responding. What I am being told about SCT is in the early stages. However hospilization is minimal as much is blldone as an outpatient.
I will definitely ask questions as I move forward. Peace

As I said hospitals have different procedures—my hospital was in patient which is why I chose that hospital as I lived with my 89 year old mother who couldn’t be much of a care giver. My kids all lived within 45 minutes of the hospital so coming and staying worked fine as they could do their work there. But I know more and more are being done as out patient now. Good luck and please do ask as that’s what WhatNext is all about.

Hi Pat14. It's great news that you're eligible for an SCT! As Lynniepoo said, all hospitals' procedures vary slightly, and also know and remember that each of our experiences varies slightly. What I consider to have been the best info offered to me by a past transplant patient was to go into the procedure as well and fit as your body allows. You'll be able to fight infections better and also regain your strength faster if you can go in having been eating nutritiously and doing whatever activity and movement you can in advance. The doctors gave me (quite a few of us on the floor, actually) the goal of walking one mile a day (10 times around the floor) every day I was hospitalized. (Full disclosure: I didn't ALWAYS meet it, LOL.) It's tough, but it's worth it! All the best!
