Strange smells and tastes after surgery.
Asked by GregP_WN on Saturday, August 1, 2020
Strange smells and tastes after surgery.
Each surgery that I've had since Dec. I've noticed a strange smell and different tastes that seem to emanate from within me. It's a strange thing, I can imagine it like a piece of plastic "something" has been placed inside of me and when I breathe, swallow, or move air in/out/around, I can smell it. Have any of you ever noticed anything like this?

Like you, I am curious to know if anyone else experienced this? If it was recent (like after your surgery last week) I would speculate it has more to do with your ketruda than surgery. Chemo heightened my sense of smell and, of course altered the taste of food, but you say it happened to you in December? Does this smell/taste last for a long period of time?

I smell cigarette smoke sometimes, even still. No one smokes at this house so it is something internal.

Marcie, it started after my laryngectomy and has been with me since.

I have had something similar after throat surgery the last time, I never mentioned it to the doctor, I just figured it was in my head. I guess it literally is.
