We are taking my mom to JH for her first appointment on Monday. Does anyone have any advice for the first visit? What can we expect? She has stage IV Cholangiocarcinoma and has just finished a 10 day round of radiation for bone tumors. No chemo yet. We just really have no idea what to expect.

I am so sorry your family is going through this. Bless you for being there for your mom. God bless our caregivers. My suggestion is to take a notebook and write down any questions you may have. Having more than one set of ears helps too. We tend to go into a state of shock and don't hear everything. Also, find out if you can access your doctors notes online, if not request them. Keep us posted, we care.......and you are not alone. Good luck and prayers to your mom.

Bring a list of questions, about chemo, radiation, side effects, when to call the doctor, etc. Write down the answers as you might not remember everything when you get home. The doctor/nurse will probably give you some brochures to read, but ask your specific questions. The brochures will have some general information, but you need to know specifically about your type of cancer and when to notify the doctor if a problem arises.
