    Synonym Saturday

I feel pretty sure I am not the only one who uses alternate words when I have doubts about spelling. Obviously some words have no synonym, so we use their definition. Yes, the internet has dictionaries and we can look up words. Yes, spell check will catch most words. Sometimes though, if you use a real word, but use the wrong word, spell check leaves it alone.

I know I am not the only one who will rework an entire sentence just so I don't have to use that word I have doubt about spelling. LOL

I do it all the time. I even think of it as a challenge to re-work a sentence to avoid using a word which I am not sure how to spell. But, my best solution is to type what I *think* is the correct spelling in the google bar above and a choice of words will automatically appear. I check myself there a lot!

Hey. Everything is fine. I thought I had posted this information before, but....
Friday at work went better than I expected. I just went in, kept my head down, did my work and refused to engage in any controversial conversation. Today the turmoil on the other end is looking to rear its head again, but I am ready to bail if necessary. I hate that things have to come to a boiling point and fever pitch before the point gets made, but this is a pattern here for as long as I have been here. My predecessor said it has always been this way. Until someone blows, nothing changes.
I had put up a long post about the cause of the whole ordeal on Thursday, but then after the judgmental response on someone else's post about ignorance and illiteracy because someone misspelled a word, I decided I wasn't really up for the criticism and input. Best to just leave it alone.
I know they say we shouldn't let one bad apple spoil the bunch, but when it's a rotten crabapple, well....
There are way better and more important things to think about.
I am fine. I will be fine. Just need to reframe my circumstances and move on to something more positive.

Okay, I just saw one of your responses that I missed the other day. (probably because there was no notification of your post on my wall!)
First I want to say, I admire you for your strength. Sometimes when there is a heated exchange it is easy to succumb to a knee-jerk reaction (and regret it later). I give you credit for allowing the storm to pass and then re-access. I think we all can relate to that. I also know it is difficult to do, so I am sending you mental support! Keep on keeping on is sometimes the best thing to do.

I hope there is not anyone on this site that would be so small as to come after you, or anyone for that matter. This is a place for open, honest exchange of ideas and sometimes advice. (and sometimes silliness, because laughter is so important). The thing is, right now no one knows when or what ANYONE posts because we are not being notified? I wish we could get a clear picture of how this site operates and why the notification policy changed? I, like many, can be in the habit of checking here every once in a while, but there are lots of us who need the email nudge to come here and participate - or just learn something. I am so disappointed in how this is evolving. I don't think it has anything to do with the new moderator? It seems he is there to eliminate spam (for which we are all grateful). We have made an honest effort to keep things going, but we can only do so much. If the site is collapsing we all lose.

@Marcie, the last "digest" I got, or any sort of notification was on April 6. It seems that maybe some configuration or settings have changed.

@Marcie, sometimes I really doubt it's "strength" to dodge the storm, or seek momentary refuge. It's merely self preservation. Often that's all it is. The storm never really passes. It just goes into the background for a brief time. It's like the eye of a hurricane. You just give thanks when you are in the eye. You take a moment to survey the damage and steel yourself for the the next round. But like all good coastal girls, I know it's important to have a contingency plan and emergency "supplies." I know better than to stand and fight when the storm is bad. Just wait for the eye and make some preparations.

He was starting to ramp up today and I just told him we have too much to do to argue over minutiae. I also had to remind him that doing "everything" in certain matters means that he has to be mindful of the tiny stuff. He always just says "kick it back to me. That's not in your list of things to do." So he asked me to get some information from a client. I told him he had committed to that project with "everything" involved. It meant several extra emails and phone calls and a re-drafted document. I told him he needed to understand what "everything" entailed for a day. By the end of the day, he was like "How do you ever get anything done? It's just constant stuff- emails, phone calls, checking on this and that. I need help." I am willing to assist, but I needed him to understand all that is involved when I have to jump into projects that involve stepping away from my regular work. I think he understood a lot more how the small details and the 50 tiny things each day turn into a whole project. It may not change a darn thing, and he may go back to his regular ways but for today, he understood. Today it was a step in the right direction.

I am bummed about what is happening on this site, Jen. I'm afraid we are going to lose it.

Hi, gals. legaljen, I’m glad things have settled down, even if for only temporarily.

I’m kind of shocked that anyone here would criticize anyone’s writing.

Marcie, I too am bothered by the absence of the reminders. ColbyR was told (as you probably know). I hope he can get WN back to where it was. I think that WN offers something other cancer sites don’t: the chance of getting to know other survivors, albeit in a limited capacity (unless the people want to take it further), and to develop online friendships. I go to r/Cancer, daily, and r/breastcancer, but there I don’t find a similar sense of camaraderie (but those sites are frequented by young people, and they may communicate more through direct messaging than out in the open). I do find those sites interesting, but not as comforting and warm as WN.

      Let’s hope this site continues.
