    Tamoxifen

I had my routine 6 mo check up with radiologist and all looks good. It is 4 years and cancer free. She did however, say that I will most likely be on tamoxifen for 6 more years because research is showing the benefits of no reoccurence significantly increases if taken for 10 years. Anyone else heard of this?

I have heard of taking tamoxifen or other aromatase inhibitors for five years. Not sure about 10! I am on femara.

Yes, that was my thinking and when she kept saying I had 6 more years I thinking, "do you know me?" I have one more year...she said well probably not and began talking about new findings. I haven't seen my oncologist so it will be interesting to hear his view.

Yup - seen that research. Do you have many side effects on tamoxifen? You have another year to figure out what you wanna do...

Other than hot flashes, I haven't had any side effects. My last lab works a month ago indicated that I'm still not in menopause so I don't know if I should be expecting more side effects but either way, as long as we're here to tell the tale, I'm good with it.

I've been hearing a lot on the news about this lately: 10 years of Tamoxifen is becoming the new standard recommendation.

If it were recommended to me by my onc, I would GLADLY take Tamoxifen for 10 years! I took it for 5, which was the treatment ten years ago, and last August was dx'd with another type of breast cancer on the same side. Wish they knew then what they know now.
