    Tamoxifen now or when scheduled?

I just finished my radiation Dec. 4, 2012. DCIS clear margins, and sentinel node.
My Oncologist called me today to congratulate me on finishing my radiation. She also wanted to make sure I was still ok with starting Tamoxifen Jan. 28. She said if I wanted to I could start now if I would feel better. I had asked if it made a difference if I waited until the scheduled date. She said it did not. Can anyone share with me how soon they started tamoxofen after radiation treatment and/or tell me where I can find some statistics?
    Thank you

What kind of statistics are you looking for? I don't remember exactly how long after I completed radiation that I started Tamoxifen, but I think it was within a month. I have no idea what the significance of waiting until Jan 28 is. I can see if maybe she was going to wait until the beginning of the year so you didn't have to deal with any possible side effect until after the holidays. In any case, unless you have a personal preference, I think this is a flip a coin decision and either way in the grands scheme of things it will not make any difference one way or the other.

I finished December 6, 2011 and started Tamoxifin January 1. I picked that day so It would be memorable, as if I would forget.

I finished my radiation on Dec 31, 2011 and began taking Tamoxifen on Jan 2, 2012. My oncologist indicated that I could begin Tamoxifen while receiving radiation, but my radiologist nixed that idea because he wanted to make sure that if there were side effects from the radiation he'd know for sure that it was due to radiation and not the medicine. At no time did either doctor seemed concerned about WHEN I began Tamoxifen just that I begin it for its long term benefits.

I started Tamoxifen one month after I finished chemo. I did not have rads. I had a bilat in Feb, finished chemo in Aug and started Tamoxifen in Sept. I went off Tamoxifen in Nov because I couldnt handle the side effects. I was told it is best to start the Tamoxifen sonner rather than later but waiting a month shouldn't be a problem, especially if that is when your onc scheduled you to start.

I had my DCIS surgery on November 12 with internal radiation at the time of surgery and started Tamoxifen just 2 weeks later. I haven't had any problems.
