      Hi Shellsmom,

Just wanted to reach out and let you know that I'm going to see what information I can come up with for you, as well as try to find someone who has that experience that they can share.

Have your tried calling the American Cancer Society's hotline? The number is at the bottom of this page. They may have some suggestions for you.

We did find out a little bit about it on the internet..nothing too much tho.. She finished her 4th treatment Friday..and the doctors are very pleased with how it is working out. She happens to be the youngest and smallest patient they have done this on..at least here. She is barely 115 pounds and 5 feet tall.. Her oncologist is amazed how brave and strong she has been through all this..and how well the cancer is responding to the treatments. We have 4 external treatments this week, and her final internal one on the 23..and 2 more chemo appointments..then they think she is done with all the treatments. Not sure what happens after that yet tho.

Tandem and ovoid treatment is a form of brachytherapy or internal radiation therapy. It involves the use of a tandem, which is a small metal tube that is put inside the uterus and used to treat that area. The ovoids are round hollow metal holders that are put near the cervix to treat some patients with cervical cancer. These metal holders are filled with radioactive material to treat the nearby areas as a form of brachytherapy.

You can read more about this in our information on brachytherapy. You can find specific info online at
