My tumor was blocking my bile duct and I had a temporary plastic stent placed in July 2012. They then replaced that with another temporary stent in September 2012. Each time I was told that it would be removed once they did the Whipple. That surgery then had to be canceled again and they place a permanent metal stent. I had absolutely no problems with the plastic stents, but when they placed the metal one I had some severe vomiting. IMO it was my body rejecting the foreign metal object. Went to the ER for severe dehydration and after about a week all was well. Have not had any issues with stent since. Sorry but I can't say anything to the bypass.

I too had a stent put in shortly after my diagnosis in April, but it was removed during the subsequent Whipple operation (as it was no longer needed). I had no difficulties at all with the stent. I did not have a bypass (although during the Whipple, surgeons basically "re-routed" (as they called it) my entire digestive system, so there were bypasses involved. I'm not sure if the bypass you mention is connected with planned surgery for you, so it's a bit hard to respond on this part. Hope this is at least a bit helpful. JMS
