What are your experiences with BCG Treatment for Bladder Cancer?

I'm new to this site and will have my 4th BCG Treatment this week for Stage 1 High-Grade Non-Invasive Bladder Cancer. I'd like to hear from others on this site about their experiences with BCG Treatment.

Welcome to the site, I can't help you with experiences with that, I haven't had it. But I wanted to welcome you and wish you the best. Someone else on the site will see this and have some feedback for you.

Hi, I first had 6 BCG treatments. My cancer was in the tube leading to the right kidney. It was difficult for the dr to remove. On my second surgery to check everything he found a large stone in the tube. So big he had to break it up. I had three BCG treatments after that. Then a cystoscope.they have found a new cancer on the wall of the bladder. Had that burnt off last week and go to the Drs office in a couple of days. Then I will be going back on BCG after with more aggressive times scheduled.

I just completed my first six rounds of BCG for Stage 1 High-Grade non-invasive bladder cancer. Treatment hasn’t been too bad thus far. I go back in mid March for cytoscopy to check for new tumor growth. If no new growth then we do a few more rounds of BCG and then work outa maintenance schedule for periodic cytoscopy and adjuvant BCG treatments. If there is new growth we will have to do more surgery and make a new plan.
BCG has been a breeze compared to treatments I did for colorectal cancer fifteen years ago.

Best of luck to you. Buy lots of bleach - you will need it.

Unfortunately, the BCG treatment did not work for me. I believe I had 6 treatments. I never had any side effects from the treatment other than how it’s delivered. That really hurt. Good luck.

I wanted to add that I’m a 15 year survivor and my quality of life is good. I went through a lot and after my “big” surgery in 2004, my doc said the surgery would give me 5 years! That was in 2007 and no signs of any cancer since! So, hang in there and don’t ever give up! Be an advocate for yourself and don’t be afraid to speak up if something doesn’t seem right.

Yes, I had Cysplatin and it was tough but got through it. Hang in there and no matter what, try to be positive. There is life after Bladder Cancer!
