What experience have you had applying for unemployment?

The left side of my throat is paralyzed & I can barely talk & cannot swallow at all. I am permanently on a feeding tube. Also have issues with my leg from where they ripped a hunk of meat for my radical dissection & a broken hip.

You're probably going to need to look at disability. Unemployment isn't a consideration for loss of work due to health issues.

I agree with CovidCancer - social security disability seems like the option you need to pursue. I would think you would not have a difficult time getting it - but some do and some don't. I had it super easy - but we had to hire an attorney for my husband to get his. Most attorneys take the case on a contingency basis, I think, and take a relatively small portion of your back pay. (10%, I think) Good luck! It sounds like if anyone deserves disability income, it is you.

Yep, unemployment will deny a claim due to medical issues keeping you from being able to work. Those are two separate divisions. I have had employees for years and occasionally will have someone try to file for UE due to being sick or injured. Sick and Injured are both different issues also. And, I agree with the others that it's probably going to be a disability issue.

During my first treatment years ago I was missing a lot of work and was feeling guilty about it. So I asked my boss if they wanted to just lay me off for a while to help them not have to pay my salary during that time and he told me that it wouldn't work because unemployment wouldn't pay for time off due to health issues, so everyone's answers are spot on. I hope you get through this well.

I asked about this too, I thought that I would be able to be laid off until I got done with treatment. The HR dept. says NO.
