II asked my oncologists that same question and they all had the same answer: Lots of lean protein (chicken, turkey, tofu), and lots of colorful fruits and vegetables. They also stressed mixing things up a bit and not just eating, say, bright red peppers, but also bright green, red, yellow, orange, and purple foods. This has worked well for me as far as keeping my energy and vitality up. When I can't eat the actual foods, I drink a lot of juices - good hearty juices with pulp & puree like Bolthouse farms. Good luck!

The surgeon who inserted my hepatic artery infusion pump told me to eat garlic and lots of it. My oncologist has never mentioned food at all. I just try to eat a well balanced diet and i juice almost everyday.

Kicking Cancer in the Kitchen is good. I also like the Cancer Fighting Kitchen by Rebecca Katz. A whole foods plant based diet is great, as is an alkaline diet as cancer can not survive in an alkaline environment. Different foods can also help with side effects and some foods are better for specific cancers than others. I definitely encourage you to do a little research and think about what you want your food to do for you (i.e. keep on healthy weight, manage side effects, keep immune system up, etc.).

I received this good little booklet called Eating Hints Before, During, and After Cancer Treatment, from the National Cancer Institute at the National Institutes of Health http://www.cancer.gov/cancertopics/coping/eatinghints.pdf

Go to the the American Institute of Cancer Research website. On the homepage you'll find their section/link to Foods That Fight Cancer. All research based, good stuff. You can even sign up to receive a recipe every week via email.
