What is the prep like before a thyroidectomy?

I had half of a thyroidectomy, and I can't remember any particular prep, other than no eating or drinking after midnight. My doc was great and she let me stay overnight, even though they usually would send me home. I felt TONS better the next morning. Good luck with it.

I had a TT and the prep was very similar no food or drink after midnight. They also gave me a pregnancy test before surgery a week out and when I got to the hospital that morning as part of preop procedure. It wasn't necessary but they did it any way so depending on personal status that may be a part of your preop procedure. I would say if they are making it an outpatient procedure ask the doctor to make it an admitted procedure because you will probably not want to get up and go home the same day. I asked to stay over night so I could have Zofran and Fentanyl for postop nausea and pain. You will also probably want to get a couple of good pillows that are sturdy yet comfortable so you can adjust to a 45' angle when you sleep or if you have an adjustable bed a softer type pillow so your head is not to high or low, for when you go home.

I wish you the best in your surgery, and sending postive thoughts your way :o)
