    What's your Favorite Passttime?

What is your favorite pastime? How do you enjoy spending your leisure time. Whether it's a Friday night poker game, to going to a garden club meeting, to going to a book club, to doing crossword puzzles, I want to know how you spend your time both when you're under the weather and on top of the world! You can list more than one thing, it's ok!...;)

My favorite thing to do is play with my 21 month old granddaughter. She is at such a fun age. She knows when she is getting into something she shouldn't and gives you that devilish smile as she climbs on or touches something she shouldn't. And she has already developed a sense of humor. She calls me Nonna and my 17 year old niece Mimi, but she will go up to my niece, look her in the eye with a twinkle and call her "Nonna!" loudly because she knows Mimi will pretend to be indignant and chase her around the room until she "catches" her. There's nothing like watching the world through fresh, innocent eyes!

I love to read. Also knit and crochet. I'm making hats for preemies, so I feel like I'm giving back in a small way. I went from working full time to staying at home full time. The transition was hard at first, but getting easier as I develop new routines.

I read when I need calm & quiet. I love to shop even if it's just to look & dream. I take pics of nature. I watched the eagles of Decorah Iowa when I was going through treatments on an on-line cam & now am in love with eagles. Just found out there are a pair very close to me so have been hanging out hoping to see them. I like when everything calms down after supper & I get to spend time watching TV with my hubby & dog.
Thanks for the question! Never realized in all my worry I actually am living & having fun!!!!!

Knitting/spending time on Ravelry (the amazingest fantasticest social network for knitters, crocheters and other fiber lovers) It's a free site, and I've been on it for years without a problem.
There are even cancer-related groups on their forum. ravelry.com

Scrabble. Scrabble any time day or night. With people, or cyber-people. Having wonderful smart phone games now with a fine lady (I think) from Kalkota on Words with Friends. Best thing that ever happened for word game players.

I tend to fall asleep when I read, (I do read though - both e-books and regular) so I listen to audiobooks alot. And podcasts, of course.).

I exercise.and walking outdoors when weather permits. I've had to scale back some, of course - but I finished chemo, and now radiation about 2 weeks ago. Last night I hit my pre-treatment level on the elliptical. Yaay! I am absolutely certain the exercise I kept up (and some days it was a battle) helped in my recovery from treatment. I think it also kept me from the fatigue many people suffer from. Only on very few days was I fatigued. By the way, you can probably tell from my other main interests that I HATE exercise. But I acknowledge its importance in maintaining physical and emotional well-being.

I'm retired so I have the time now for all this leisure stuff. And I've become a lot more relaxed about things that don't count. (Like keeping my place worthy of a decorating magazine photo-shoot). Old people can get away with a lot :)

Addendum to my Words with Friends interest:
If you play, you can request a game with me. You can message me here by clicking on my avatarar or initials. I'll send you my WWF name so we can play. I'm sort of paranoid...no, paranoid about posting personal things on line.

I do not play on Facebook, or through Facebook. You would have to look me up by my WWF special magic name to start up a game.

I spend most my time laying down. I have fibromyalgia and it is so painful that it is hard from me to stay up any length of time. Then having these surgeries on top of it all doesn't help much. So I mostly watch t.v. or read or spend time on the computer.

I love crossword puzzles. I try to exercise my brain with the word jumbles (where you unscramble the letters to make a word). I also love smothering my pup with kisses. At night when I go to bed I write in my gratitude journal then settle in with a good book. Love that time.

I love to exercise and like to try new things along those lines. I have tried zumba, belly dancing warrior dash and have just purchased a heavy bag and will start boxing classes soon. I even did a 5k 4 days before my 8th chemo treatment. Very slowly, but I did it. I also loved to travel. I went to Vegas and Utah with my husband and Australia and London for work very recently. How about you?

My favorite past time is coffee in Paris or Berlin, scoping out blonds. But lacking that, I love movies and driving. Driving anything. Cars, trucks, tractors, bulldozers..........

I've learned so much today. I always suspected knitters were a cult (and highly secretive) and BuckeyeShelby has an Irish cat. Mines from LA. You would not believe the dietary restrictions/demands. KateMarie, you are so lucky.

I have a routine of getting up, and getting my housework done (since I'm retired).. House cleaned, I either hop on my computer to What Next.. first and try to help. or to FDMB (Feline Diabetic Msg. Board) to try to help, OR Start writing poetry to cheer those in tough situations. I'm told my poems cheer people up.... AFTER it makes them cry. Then walking in the sunshine... talking with friends and family... decorating or redoing my home.... I do a look for each season.... I'm about to "Antique my kitchen Island" Cabnets are all white and the granite is black, tan and gray (a very blue gray) thus I want to do the Island in a 'darker country blue'. I'm now doing what I've always wanted to do while I worked full time... Sadly my most desired activity would have been to be a stay at home mom for my three sons.... I couldn't do that... But I can watch my one grandson that occasionally needs me.... The others are all but adults... Love to play with my Great Grandkids too.... Naps... on occasion naps are fun... I could go on... but I'll spare you.

It's always nice to answer your own question, so I'll be polite and do that...;) Most of you know me as the Medical Librarian on the site - I've also been about every other kind of other librarian as well except for corporate and legal (thank God!!), so I love to read!! And I love book groups, but the one I belonged to became very well, complicated, to put it in a way. As I've mentioned, there is wwwdotgoodreadsdotcom Aside from that, I love escaping NYC whenever possible with my fiancé or a friend - a favorite weekend escape is New Hope, Pa. (we could have a convention there so the place won't get too crowded all at once...;)), Another place I love going, is The Promenade in Brooklyn Heights, NY (that looks across the East River straight into the Manhattan skyline and was/is a favorite of many filmmakers including Woody Allen). I'm great with crossword puzzles, a fair to middling scrabble player (my fiancé doesn't play [alas...;( {his only failing}. I wouldn't necessarily mind seeking a partner after I'm over this current bad sinusitis infection I have...;( I love visiting with my daughter, a Paramedic, now in Nursing School-we have very limited time together so every moment with her is really special!

Oh, one or two additional things, I enjoy cooking and baking quite a lot, but since I had my surgery in December (mastectomy), my energy level's not ye back up to speed, and I have difficulty cooking a whole dinner by myself. I was however able to make Kahlua chocolate truffles for Passover (you may feel free to email for the recipe, however they are not heart healthy by any means!)...;)
