What will your period be like after a leep procedure?

I haven't been told too much about this yet.

I had a LEEP procedure done about 4 years ago. I had no difference in my period. They go in and scraped the cells to get rid of pre-cancerous cells on the cervix. They do not do anything with your ovaries or uterus so you should not have any different symptoms with regards to your period. You will have some discomfort and cramping afterwards. My doctor gave me some 800 mg ibuprofen to help after the procedure. They also put some stuff inside where the procedure was done to help prevent bleeding. You will have to use a pad for a few weeks due to spotting or some bleeding and I was told no tampons during this time. And don't freak out when brown chunky discharge comes out because it is normal. Hope this helps.

Hogfan is correct. The LEEP will have no effect on your period. It's purpose is to remove cells from the surface of the cervix and not behind it. I have assisted in many, many LEEP or LOOP procedures and they are virtually painless as the surface is numbed. Best of luck to you.You will do just fine, Carm RN.
