WhatNexters in the New York Metro, Tri-state area.

Would love to hear from any of our friends in the new epicenter. Hope you're doing OK. I'm a New Yorker but at night I can see the light in the sky over Montreal so about as far away from the city as I can be and still be in the same state. Nevertheless, thinking of you all and really concerned for your welfare..

Bengal and Greg, Brooklynite here (as you know), and thank you for your concern. Bengal, it sounds so good to be able to in effect see Canada from where you are!

I hope other NYC-area WNers respond to your question, Bengal. So far my partner, brother, and NYC friends are okay (as far as we know). Two friends live right across the street from that now-famous (infamous?) Elmhurst Hospital in Jackson Heights, Queens. One had a quadruple bypass several months ago, so he’s especially high-risk. All of us are on lockdown but still allowed to go out for food, a walk, or to a doctor or dentist (if unavoidable), as long as we socially distance. But it’s scary, and we are waiting for the “peak” to arrive.

      Be safe, all.

Carool, so glad to know you are doing OK! It has to be frightening to all who are trapped at the hotspots for coronavirus and being told by medical experts and the governor you have to say put to both avoid getting the virus and avoid possibly spreading it to other areas. We have a large summer cottage community here with people coming in from all parts of the country, some from as far away as Hawaii! I' m sure many are anxious to get to the perceived relative safety of their Adirondack getaway. Local governments here are asking them to PLEASE stay away. Our small local hospitals at just not equipped to handle a major outbreak.

Please continue to stay safe. I see the images on TV of exhausted doctors and nurses at Elmhurst and cannot fathom what they are trying to cope with.

Thank you so much, Beachbum, Kp2018, Greg, Bengal, and Bug, for your words.

Bengal, I’ve heard about the situation you mention, and I empathize with the problems — and health risks — being faced by the local people. I think NYC residents should stay home until the eventual all-clear, however long it may take.

      Be safe, everyone.
