Where is my journey taking me
Asked by hometown on Saturday, February 18, 2012
Where is my journey taking me
Colon caner patient been in remission for two years. In Nov 2011 pet scan revealed a mass in the mesentery calling it suspious. My oncologist was sure it was a return of the cancer. I was sent for a biopsy in Nov and it came back negative. The oncologist was so surprised but scheduled me for another CT/Pet scan in Feb Well this scan showed uptake and the mass is still there but did shrink some. My oncologist was in a bad mood when I went this week as the fire alarms went off causing him to be 2 hours behind and when I asked him what he thought of this he said he didn't know, and to come back in April and more testing. Now I am worried as is it cancer or not? Should I be happy or sad? Anyone have any input on this mess? Thanks Joyce

Yeah - I agree... And if you can, maybe try to have that April appointment first thing in the morning, before he can even start being behind schedule. I've been really fortunate in that my appointments have never felt rushed.... I have a running document, on which I add questions whenever I think of them... And the docs have been very patient about letting me work my way through all of them, and they won't let me skip any.... and they won't let me move on until I express satisfaction with the level of discussion about each question.... The one is definitely socially awkward... but patient and so very clear in how he explains things... I'm so lucky!
And see, I should feel lucky. EVERYONE should get that....
Having a fire alarm go off in a medical building can only be just a total train wreck of a day.... I can't imagine what that would be like for the patients and people working in the building.
I think getting a new appointment is such a good idea... And hopefully, you can get information that will help you move forward. What a stressful time - I'm so sorry you are going through this.

My last lump that came up in my neck, I was told was nothing to worry about. this was after a cat scan. But still, they done a needle aspiration anyway. It came back positive. I wanted the biopsy done to start with but my regular dr. said the ct scan would tell him everything he needed to know. It turned out to be a wasted of 1700.00 dollars that my insurance doesnt cover. Not knowing is the worst. Ask for more tests sooner rather than later. That's just the way I try to do. Maybe he will work with you and help ease the anxiety. Good luck and I hope for the best!!
