Go to the best surgeon possible, interview the surgeons and look them up as much as possible online.
But Robotic is always best for most surgeries because it is less stressful on the body and the recovery time is much quicker, and I have also heard that it is more accurate as well.
      Good luck and best wishes!

p.s. I have no idea if it is more accurate or not for your surgery but a friend was told that for their kidney surgery.

There are so many variables to consider that it is difficult to say one is better than the other... For me, I chose robotic as my doctor was experienced with it, he had a great record for successful interventions, the recovery time was less and the after effects were typically not as severe. This has proven true thus far for me. One night in hospital, one week at home, continence is not a major issue, etc. Big decision but I hope you find the answers that help you feel comfortable with your decision.... best of luck!

I had robotic hysterectomy, my sister had standard hysterectomy 6 weeks later. My recovery was much easier than hers, but she didn't have cancer, so she was done after her surgery. I still had chemo and radiation to go through. I think if the doc is recommending robotic surgery, that is what he/she is most skilled at. It is better for recovery, not sure about whether there can be side effects from this type of surgery. They have less room to work, so it is more difficult for the surgeon.

Everyone is different. I had robotic surgery but I explored all of the options with my Urologist. Then I did a ton of research online. I talked to the folks at MD Anderson in Houston. I wish your friend the Best.

I apologize I did not read the entire question. I would definitely choose robotic surgery with a very experienced surgeon. the experience with the robotic machine is a must. with the high definition screens they can see things better and with the machine they can be more steady/accurate.

i think questions you could ask include

what will be my recovery time with robotic versus abdominal surgery?
      potential complications?

what is your experience with each technique?
which do you recommend and why?

based on what i've heard from others, robotic is the choice that gives you a shorter recovery time and fewer complications.

good luck - this is a tough decision....

my personal experience is with robotic surgery. it was the best choice for me in my
specific diagnosis..... get educated on the pros and cons of all the options that you have.
