Xeloda......what type of side effects did you have?

Will be starting Xeloda on the 3rd and was wondering what type of side effects others had.

My dad did not have Xeloda, but almost did. At that time, the doctor said the most common side effects are mouth sores and "hand - foot" syndrome. http://chemocare.com/chemotherapy/side-effects/handfoot-syndrome.aspx

      Hi Jeanine,

I took Xeloda for 5 months. I really felt good taking it with no side effects EXCEPT hand and foot syndrome. I never got mouth sores. I never felt nauseated. BUT the foot and hand syndrome was quite noticeable. My hands were extremely red with a few very small brown spots. My hands are back to normal after about three months. My feet were really bad. They were red and tender almost feeling like they were going to get blisters and then they would get splits in the skin at the heels which hurt. Then they got calloused at the heels and on the soles. They are no longer painful but still need TLC. I used to walk 6 miles on flat land 3 times a day and I quit walking that far and that often because of my feet. I am back walking now but not as far. You need to buy Udder Cream. You can buy it over the counter at drug store chain. It s a very rich cream. Use it constantly. I have to admit I did not use it enough and regretted it later. If I were to have tkae Xeloda for an extended time it would be a breeze other than this issue. I loved the convenience of the tablet form. Here's some more advice: This drug company will help you with some funds if you need it. I thought that I was going to need help with the co-pay. At first the offered me $4,000 if I made less than $100,000 annually then they raised it to $24,000 but my insurance covered all of my chemo 100% so I didn't need the funds. I hope this helps. Start on the Udder Cream immediately even if you do not have the symptoms yet. Do not do dishes, do not soak your feet etc. Good Luck!

I started with 4 pills twice a day. Did not do well. Very bad diarreha. Worked my way down to 1 pill twice a day and basically no side effects. Wish I could have tolerated it better at the higher dose because the lower dose caused my breast cancer to return after 6 months so had to go back on IV chemo.

I am currently on Xeloda, and I have been fortunate enough not to be experiencing hand & foot syndrome. I do have thinning hair and some nausea. As well as quite a bit of fatigue. However, I am able to function and live a normal life, despite the tiredness. Initially, the Dr put me on 3 tablets, twice a day. I was extremely ill and could hardly function. My Dr reduced the dose to two pills, twice a day, and I'm just fine. The drug is reducing the cancer, so it has been quite effective.
