My husband was diagnosed with Neuroendocrine Carcinoma of the Lung last July. He has had his right lower lobe removed along with an involved lymph node. Tumor was 4+ cm. in lung. He sometimes feels like someone pulled a plug to his energy source, and he has also been dealing with Carcinoid Syndrome (flushing mostly, but and episode or 2 of wheezing this month.)
Since the episodes of CS are increasing (1-2 in the months before surgery, and then none until a few months after) rather rapidly (1 to 2 in May & June, 4-5 in July and 8+ in Aug.), his oncologist is suggesting radiation and possibly chemo as a prophylactic approach to the symptoms, even though so far all tests (CT, PET, Octreotide, 5HIAA, etc.) have been negative.
My question, if anyone can answer, is will it help? The oncologist did mention the side-effects and possible risks, but not if it will help. I'm hoping someone has had experience with this (though I don't wish it on anyone) and can give me an answer.
    Thank you.
