Hello and welcome, we are sorry for your diagnosis, but we are happy to have you with us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page, Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the left side of that page a listing of most types of cancer. You can scroll down to find your diagnosis. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started with the help you need right now.

If you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the database to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site.

Hi AMatthews! Welcome to WhatNext.com! I'm so very sorry to hear of your diagnosis but you've found a great place to ask questions, get information, and share experiences. I was stage IV at my diagnosis and I'm still here more than five years later so please know there's still plenty of hope.

A few months ago, I recorded a series of videos for WhatNext about my cancer journey. You may find them helpful. I've included a link at the end of this message should you wish to check them out.

WhatNext.com is a great place for everyone, from the newly diagnosed to those of us who've been living with cancer for some time - friends and loved ones too! While you're here at WhatNext.com, check out the questions and experiences of other folks here. You can find people who've had the same cancer, surgeries, chemotherapy and experiences should you wish. It's often reassuring to know others have been through what you're facing and thrived. I also recommend the PINBOARD - there are often humorous or uplifting posts that can make your day. Definitely worth checking out.

In the meantime, I'm here if you have any questions or want to chat.

    Welcome AMatthews,
It sounds like you are considering a second opinion after you had a reoccurence. A second opinion is always a good idea. You may want to check out a Comprehensive Cancer Center since they often have more resources and options. Other care? Does that mean Palliative Care to help with your symptoms. If it does, I highly recommend it. I had Palliative Care in 2015 and it was very helpful. Palliative Care does not mean you are at the end of life. It is very scary having a reoccurence. I had one last year and now it's happening again. I hope you have people around you that can help (family, friends, neighbors, co-workers, church members ect .). Don't hesitate to ask for help or accept it. Feel free to ask any questions. We are here for you.

Hi AMatthews, welcome to WhatNext. Thank you for sharing your experiences. I am sorry you are having an especially difficult time fighting this xxx disease. Recurrences are common with later stage ovarian cancer but recurring within ten months of frontline chemo usually means you are plantinum resistant. You mention decision point, seeking a second opinion, my thoughts are a second or third opinion is never a waste of time. When recurrence occurs we owe it to ourselves to research and reach out to other avenues of medical care. Think about getting a second opinion from Holden Comprehensive Cancer Center in Iowa City or traveling out of state for your second or third opinion. I traveled long distances for my care because there were no specialists close to my town. Most of all do not settle when it comes to your medical care.

I would also encourage you to watch a video on WhatNext by kalindria. She is a five year survivor of stage IV ovarian cancer living on maintenance therapy for a recurrence and she is not alone, there are hundreds of women continuing to live their lives today despite having a recurrence. Today is not yesterday and the options for treatment are many . . Women can and have reached remission after recurrence. Look the site over, ask any questions and talk to other survivors on their walls. I would suggest you talk to kalindria and macfightsback- both ladies fighting recurrence. I wish you success in any further treatments , and better days ahead. I am a five year survivor of ovarian cancer and you can chat with me anytime on my wall.
