The remnants of my family were very vocal about their inability to cope with my diagnosis and abandoned me almost immediately. My bff also decided it was all so trifling and going to be too much to deal with so chose to drift away like a sailboat into the sunset...that was six years ago.

Interestingly, I found a voicemail left two days ago with this message: "Hi, it's *******, ...just called to see if you're still alive...bye." No way would I ever return this call to one who abandoned me when I was in a hospital, begging them to come see me because I was alone and afraid but, this person chose to ignore me and has remained absent from my life.

We don't get to choose our family but, we can try to find people who are good souls, people we would have chosen to be our kin and then, treat them like the valuable souls they are and be grateful we have them in our lives. jmo

Give them some time to deal with the news but the most important thing is to put you in first place. I mean don´t let them upset you because of their reactions. Try to keep an space or a kind of self protection from bad feelings, bad humor, bad actions, etc.... trust after they understand their own feelings they will be more helpful to you but in this meantime don´t let them hurt your feelings. And if they simply don´t change you can talk to them and/or get the necessary distance from them. Toxic people with toxic energy are not welcome at all. I will pray they only don´t know yet how to help and express their feelings If we can be of any help just let us know. Blessings and best wishes for you

Hello and welcome, we are happy to have you with us. Please feel free to join in the conversations. Here is a link to our cancer dx page for your type of cancer. Take a look at it to get you started on some information. You will notice at the bottom of that page 4 of our active users who have had that journey already, you may wish to contact them for their experience and wisdom. Also, I encourage you to go to the questions page now by clicking on the questions tab at the top of the page and post what is the most pressing issue you have right now. This will introduce you to the community and get you started with the help you need right now.

There are also subtypes listed on this page to narrow down the type of cancer to match your dx. Also, if you can take a few minutes and fill in some details of your journey so far, it will help others as they try to answer questions for you, it also helps others as they search through the database to find someone like themselves. Confirming your email will allow you to receive updates and notices from the site when someone answers your questions or writes on your wall.

Thanks for being with us and let me know if I can help you find any information on the site.

Welcome but sorry you have to be here. This is a great place for support. Are you currently on chemo or have you had surgery?
I was diagnosed with stage 2a rectal cancer in 2015. It spread to my liver once in 2017, and once again in 2018. I actually see my oncologist this morning to so if I’m still NED.
