I had ovaries/ hysterectomy after recurrance while on tamoxifen. Can't have ovaries functioning to do AIs. I had abdominal endoscopic with vaginal removal of organs done with DaVinci robot system. It was a piece of cake! I was very happily surprised at the lack of pain (except the headache that nite cuz you are place practically upside down to be able to see better in surgery). Way way way different from the mastectomies. With endoscopic/ vaginal (with or without DaVinci), pain is less and recovery time is less. I didn't feel any different than pre-surgery (I was in perimenopause with regular periods), altho that might not hold true for everyone.

After radical surgery, cheom, 35 radiation treatments (that all seemed to put me close to death) has anyone had a hysterectomy.

I had bilat mastectomy, chemo, radiation, and then I had a hysterectomy with oophrectomy (ovaries removed) because I was not having more children, ER positive and have the BRCA gene. I chose to have mine done at the same time as my reconstruction surgery because I was a working mom with two young children and did not want two separate hospital stays and recoveries. Doctors were not thrilled but agreed and I am glad I did it Recovery was no problem at all, especially after everything else I had been through. My lingering effect, since I can't take hormone replacements, is weight gain. I can't lose the weight around the middle! But, I am healthy, active and here to raise my children- so muffin top it is!

I had a hysterectomy but I didn't go thru radiation. I have had double mascetomy ( but one @ a time ) attempted reconstruction, which was infected for 6 months so I had the plastic surgeon take out the expander. I had the hysterectomy due to BRCAA 1 positive. My original diagnosis was 11/10 and I am still in pain & tired. I feel for you, it is a hard decision. My hysterectomy was an easy surgery (comparibly speaking- laparoscopic ). Are you strong enough to go thru another surgery ?
