Sorries but this is new to me.

Did anyone from the hospital make a comment?

Ask your doctor if this is a side effect of the "maintenance" drugs, please. If it is, perhaps there could be an alternative?

If this is not an effect of drugs, could you have a secondary infection?

This sounds awful. You cant have a pleasant life if breath is short and you need to be hospitalized regularly. Sometimes independent second opinions save lives. If there were cancer cells in the fluid, what good is the "maintenance" drug?

Let me be completely honest with you. IMHO, your doctor's idea makes little sense. Cancer is either gone or it isn't. There are great teaching hospitals all around. There are 'angel flights' and 'mercy flights' where volunteer pilots, without cost, will take you where you need to go in order to get opinions and treatments for cancer. Isnt the Mayo somewhere near to you?

Wishing you a fantastic and fantastically good Christmas surprise.

There are two issues here One is the discomfort from the effusion There are ways to stop this from happening The other is that there are malignant cells in the effusion The cancer is what is causing this so they will need to adjust your treatment This isn't any better or worse than seeing a spot on a CT scan that requires them to adjust the treatment. I think it means they might up their game in terms of your maintenance. good luck!
