Oh No (Cancer is back/Recurred ): Ultrasound and needle biopsy revealed a recurrence of the papillary thyroid from a year ago. Awaiting PET scan to see if it has spread.

Other Care (surgery): Twenty-eight years after having my femur replaced (and seven surgeries later for various revisions and deridements for staph infection) had a two-step procedure done to finally eradicate the staph. Procedure involved removing all of the infected hardware (femur/knee/hip) and inserting a temporary "spacer" containing antibiotics to set about killing all the bugs for an 8-10 week period. After that, had surgery again to replace the spacer and insert the new state-of-the-art prosthesis.

Radiation (Internal radiation): Surgery to remove thyroid has been completed and I have undergone the radioactive iodine. They only expect to have to give me the one dose. The quarantine is kind of disruptive, but not unbearable. I had the dry mouth symptoms pretty bad (for about two weeks). Makes food taste terrible and causes sores in the lining of my gums and tongue.
