Procedure or Surgery (Biopsy): I went to the hospital emergency because my doctor wanted me to get a CT scan for a pain in my right side that came and went but was very bad right then. The emergency room doctor, after he had read the scan came in to give me 2 choices, to stay in the hospital so they could do a biopsy, or go home if I promised to see my doctor and an oncologist. I came in there thinking they were going to say it was a had case of gas and take more gas pills. I was floored and went home to have the biopsy that week. I got the results and was able to tell my family at Thanksgiving. The oncologist and I decided that since was found so early it was okay to wait on treatment until I was back from snowboarding. I got a oncologist in Yuma while I was done there and he confirmed the treatment. It was 2 winters until I lost 60 lbs that my doctor decided we shouldn't wait much longer. I got a port put in and had 2 treatments before they found the stage II melanoma on my arm so we did more chemo. They also gave me Retucin every 6 weeks for a year after. After that I have seen my oncologist every 3 months with blood work and PET scans once a year with no sign of more problems. That was finished in 2010 so I guess I'm a survivor.
