    Hi,
I was diagnosed a year ago with small intestine cancer. I would like to be in contact with you.

    Hi Contrail!
Love that name. May I ask what your adjuvant therapy is? I am very interested.
    Thanks,

Hi Cackie, Sorry I'm so slow in answering you. I'm on Sandostatin (octreotide). I have the shot once every 28 days. The doctors are still trying to adjust the amounts and timing. So far it's doing a pretty good job at controlling the symptoms. So as long as it's working, I guess that's all I'll have to do. I was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2008, and have been on Arimidex for nearly five years now, so I thought I was out of the woods when I was diagnosed with this. This cancer is not a metastasized version of the breast cancer. It's totally different.

Side Effects (Other): My mouth is very dry. My eyes water when I am not well hydrated. I have diarrhea several times every day. Stool leakage is a big problem with the diarrhea. I have extreme flatulence which can be very embarrassing everywhere. Work is the hardest. My hair has thinned a lot but I am lucky to still have hair.

I had my tumor removed and a resection of my bowel. Will be on Gleevec for 3 years as therapy. September will be the one year mark for the medication. Passed my one year anniversary for the surgery last week. I think it is a totally different thing to be the caregiver. You have to have so many different emotions and the ultimate control is not yours. I'm new to this site but have already learned so many things. There is a special place in heaven for people who love and care for their family and friends with any illness.
