Side Effects (Chemo brain): Soon I lost every single hair on my entire body (even eyelashes!) so I looked like a gargoyle. I had a wig and my "falsies" so I could look almost normal when I needed to, but I felt horrible most of the time. I had a lot of pressure from my boss at work. I was depressed, sick, tired, and on and on and on. But finally it ended.....I had my last chemo 12/8/06. Yea! My sweet loving husband, my best-in-the -world sister, my other "love of my life" - my grandson, and other family and friends pulled me through this. If not for them I would have given up after the third chemo treatment. Thank God they wouldn't let me give up.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): 8/06 First chemo. TAC - taxotere, Adriamycin, and Cytoxan. Every 3 weeks, and injection of Nyulasta next day. Took about 5 hours, but not too bad.For next 10 days I felt like I was going to die, or that I wanted to die! Got mouth sores, nauseated all the time, so tired I couldn't move, diarrhea, nose bleeds, depression, poor-me's, and my chest was killing me. Went back to Oncologist and they said I was dehydrated, gave RX for new nausea meds, mouth sores. Wanted to die till 11 days after chemo....then I quickly started feeling better and better! Hair began falling out so my hubby shaved my head. That was a shock, every brown spot, wrinkle, crease, stuck out like a neon sign.

Procedure or Surgery (Double Mastectomy): 8/06 Surgery took about 2.5 hours. Very little pain, doc said all went well. Went home the next day. Finally looked in the mirror 2 days after surgery. I couldn't believe that was me. Path report good! Had problems sleeping, the drains drove me absolutely insane, chest itchy and tight, upper arm numb and very sore in armpit. Sucked!

Oh No (Cancer has spread/Metastasized): 7/06 Cancer has metastasized into breast tissue and is larger than they thought, almost 3.0 cm. Surgeon recommends bilateral mastectomy....what the XXX?!!!! He introduced me to Sandy Mansmann, a patient that had bilat mastec 1 year ago. This was one of the best things that happened during this whole ordeal because Sandy showed me exactly how I would look after my breasts were removed, she talked to me about the surgery, the after effects, chemo, sex, self image, and much more. My husband (of 6 weeks!!!) and I met with the Oncologist Sandy recommended the next day. Surgery scheduled in two weeks. Neither of us could think or talk about anything else.... we both just want this over.
