Hi Rap, Im 58 and was diagnosed in Feb of last year. I had a small tumor removed and then had 30 days of radiation, every day for five on and 2 days off for 30 treatments. I also had two full weeks of chemo, one week in the beginning and one in the end, 8 hrs a day. I went to the Blog for a Cure website and got tons of info from others going through the same thing. It was not fun, but it is a survivable cancer. The doctor I had told me upfront that it was curable and that made me feel a little better. I am only one year out, and have had a clean PET scan so far. Everyone is different, but it takes just as much energy to think positive than to think negative. The fear will probably never go away. Luckily my kids aren't so little, the youngest 19. My heart goes out to you and will answer any specific questions you have.
I have to say that not only is this a rare cancer, but it is one that is often caused by the HPV virus, so not one that people want to talk freely about and some doctors, in my opionion, are also uncomfortable with it.
I get automatic emails from this site and get at least 2 or 3 a week of newly diagnosed cases. It may not be so rare in the future.
Good luck and stay positive. And go to the Blog for a Cure site, you'll gets a lot of information.
