I would just like to talk with someone who has what I've got. No one in the NW Ohio/Toledo area has RCC. The local support group I went to is mostly breast cancer people and 1 gentleman with spinal cancer. My husband and I were almost finished with a dissolution the end of February 2012; then on March 14th I found out I had cancer and now I'm back at home in a loveless relationship.....having him "care" for me is not a healthy situation. I need a friend to talk to!

Hi Carolla, click on the People tab at the top of the page, then on the left side of the page click on the type of cancer you have and a list of people on this site with that diagnosis will pop up. Then you can msg. them. Let us know if we can help.

I posted on your wall. Feel free to contact me. I am female, 55, and now attacking this as a chronic illness too. So far, Sutent is doing it's job but I did have to reduce dose from 50mg to 37.5 due to hand & foot syndrome.

Side Effects (Liver problems): My mouth felt strange; foods did not taste the same...had no taste. Platelets dropped too low; liver enzymes went sky-high. I do have hot flashes; but the doctor says it's the kidney cancer, not the medicine.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Other): Was on Votrient for 29 days and it disagreed with my body. Started Sutent on 10/9 and so far, so good. I go for blood work on 10/16 (locally) and back to U of Michigan on 10/23.

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): found out March14, 2012 I had cancer that had shut down my right kidney/took it over the mass was so large. It was also in my liver (they removed 40% of it) and also into my inferior vena cava (they removed 2 tumor clots from there). Surgery went well.....doctors were NOT sure I would survive the surgery; I thought it went well and was "not that big a deal". the worst part of the surgery was the drain the liver doctor put in; i had that 3 weeks. As soon as that came out, my appetite came back and I started doing much better. Went back to work the end of June. In august we started Votrient because I have 2 tumor clots (1 in each lung). Could only stay on that 29 days as my liver became inflamed and platelets kept dropping. On Oct. 9th I started Sutent. I feel good; am hoping this is the miracle drug for me!
