Thanks for your info about radiation Wingrider1954. I have mucosal melanoma of the tongue - no cure prognosis. They said radiation MIGHT delay local recurrance. I'm feeling OK. Seems like I'd rather not subject myself to radiation. What is your cancer? i wish you well.
    Regards,
    Carolyn

      Hi Carolyn,

I had radiation to the lower jaw, neck and chest in two previous cancer dx's and again 4 years ago for Squamous Cell Carcinoma. The first side effect is losing your tasted buds, can't taste. Then Saliva glands go and you have a dry mouth, sores in mouth, dental problems are possible so get your teeth checked.
Some of the effects are reversed with time, taste comes back, saliva glands (sometimes) come back. Overall it's not as bad as chemo for me, but there are some serious side effects.

      Hope this helps you.

Hi ThickandQuick. Thanks for your info. I am trying to decide if I want to do radiation. I have mucosal melanoma of the tongue. THey say radiation MIGHT delay the cancer from coming back. What kind of cancer to you have? How much did your mouth burn? how about swallowing? I'm thinking it might be better to feel good as long as I can. Would you do it again? Thanks and hugs,
    Carolyn

Oh No (Misdiagnosed): I went to Dr. growth on my tongue. he said see you in two months. it grew from size of dime to large popped popcorn. had it biopsied. side not cancer. FINALLY removed - whoops melanoma. Back to surgery two more times. Type of cancer so unusual there is no staging, no protocal, only death in 2 to 5 years.
