Hi Janet, My husband was 49 when diagnosed and he had stage IV NHL, follicular cell. However, after 6 rounds of R-CHOP chemo and 5 mos of remission, his cancer transformed to Large B-Cell Lymphoma in his salivary gland. He was then referred to Ian Flinn, PHD at Sarah Cannon Bone Marrow Transplant Center in Nashville, TN. I highly commend this doctor and Centennial Hospital for saving my husband's life! We thought stage IV was the end, but it wasn't. He went through 5 rounds of RICE chemo then high-dose chemo with a stem cell transplant from himself followed 6 mos later with a stem cell transplant from a Matched Unrelated Donor on Nov 3, 2011. We lived in Wal-Mart Hospital Hospitality House Apts for 3 mos until he was able to return home. SCT has its risks but he is alive and well today because of this treatment plan and a wonderful 35-yr old male who was his donor. If you do not receive complete remission after your chemo treatments, please talk to your doctor about being a candidate for a stem cell transplant. It is worth the risks involved--taking one day at a time. May God bless you--you can climb this mountain!!

Praying for you both--it must be difficult having Crohn's disease along with chemo. Keep the faith!! My husband had a Matched Unrelated Donor allogeneic stem cell transplant. His donor came through the Natl Bone Marrow Registry--praise God! Have they mentioned SCT to your husband? After he completes his chemo ask if he is a candidate-- even if it means changing doctors or hospitals..it is well worth the year of risks and recovery--one day at a time. My husband was 51 at the time of transplant, but his cancer treatments began when he was 49. May God bless you!
