Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): I am 63 years old and had a hysterectomy on March 7 after spotting vaginally for a few months (which was very odd since I hadn't had a period in about 8-10 years...just assumed I went thru menopause). I was in a nursing facility recovering from a collapsed lung last summer when the spotting started. After a couple of weeks I was sent to a GYN (which I hadn't seen in 10 years or so). He did a biopsy and I was informed I needed to have a hysterectomy but they couldn't tell me if it was cancer until I had surgery. I was dumbfounded. After I saw a Pulmonary Dr and Cardiologist to clear me for surgery I was scheduled for March 7. Everything was moving too fast, which frightened me since this only started in late December. I felt like I was in the Twilight Zone. After surgery I was told they removed everything but my lymph nodes. There was cancer in my uterus but there was no lymphovascular invasion, thank goodness, which is why they left the nodes. But they did say I would require radiation treatment because the tumor was on the cusp of invasion. I was thrown for a loop and terrified. I am to begin radiation treatment this coming Monday and have elected to receive internal radiation. Trying to wrap my head around all this is difficult but I will be strong (I hope!) and face this head on.

Things moved quickly for me as well - I am 57 (was 56 when diagnoses) and was rushed to the hospital on New Years Eve in 2017. I had sepsis so they pumped me full of antibiotics first and waited until Jan 6th to do emergency surgery. I'm not upset about the surgery because I was having pain since Sept '17 and just thought it was ovarian cysts ... started chemotherapy in March '17 and just finished my 4th round out of 6. Chemo seems to be working as the PET scan shows shrinkage ... hope your radiation went well for you ... all the best ...

I'm 66, had the hysterectomy and 5 lymph nodes removed 6 weeks ago.start internal radiation on the 21st. When the oncology nurse explained the procedure, the only question I had was "will it vibrate"? So much for attempting humor. So, the 21st, 23rd, 28th and 30th. I have no idea what to expect but treat it as an adventure. Forgive me if I've offended anyone.

LOL Dayle - for real?? What did the nurse say??? Did she turn beet red?

I have now finished the 6th round of chemo (mine was stage IV so radiation wasn't an option) - gotta keep a sense of humor and find the positives in life - I've been back in the hospital twice since this began due to 1) constipation - talk about embarrassing - hospital wouldn't let me go home until I pooped) and then 2 months later from low red blood cell count - had 2 transfusions - the plus side - everyone at the hospital is terrified of giving me something so protocol is a room to myself! YES! Gotta take where we can get it ...

Good luck to you. All the best
