I know it is scary. I have been where your Mom is a couple of times. The first time was 11 years ago. I was diagnosed with stage 4 colon cancer and had clots in my lungs and was given 6 months to live. Well I am here to tell you this is beatable. It will be a long road and a lot of Drs and tests.
I am now fighting cancer again (liver) and have had the clots again in my lungs and legs. I am on Lovenox and Xoloda. I WILL BEAT THIS AGAIN, God Bless you.

I don't believe anyone here or of the medical profession, can answer your question about how long it takes to dissolve blood clots in the lungs, at best I can just tell you my experience with it. I was comatose for 35 days with pneumonia a couple of years ago, and yes I too had a major blood clot in my right lung. My Drs pushed so much blood thinner through me that I had blood coming out of my Trach tube, and from places I didn't know blood could come from. However, within 2 weeks or so, the blood clot was dissolved and I was able to continue a more conventional treatment plan. Wish you nothing but the absolute best for you and your mother. Good luck on your journey.

Hello, Thank you all. She started her first chemo treatment this week. I leave to go see her in TN on Friday. I guess the cancer is pretty far gone from the colon into the liver and they can't operate. So far she is tired, not hungry and had a "heat" attack. From what I hear, we have to clean the fruit and veggies with vinegar and keep things really clean. Any helpful hints you may have for me to pass on or help her. I welcome suggestions. You are all a great group of people. Thanks Cheryl (aka Cherak)

Your mother will have to be on medication for probably 6 weeks perhaps more to get the clots under control. I have been on it a couple of times. They wont start the chemo until its under control so they don't cause other damage. Chemo needs to have as controlled conditions as possible to have the best results. Coumadin can cause its own issues, she is probably cold and moving slow. I have a friend in a similar situation, clots in the lungs are very dangerous they cannot do anything until those are resolved. Take care of your mom and yourself Tracy
