It's good to hear from you. I had critically low white counts (called neutropenia) several times during my year-long treatment. I usually was able to eat and drink cold things after 5 or 6 days so you might want to try cold things the second week. Best wishes for good results from chemo.

Wonderful that you touched base, we all like to hear from other WhatNexters and how they are doing. Your absolutely right about the low white blood count, that baddie delayed two of my chemo treatments, but like your own experience those shots worked for me too. Wishing you continued better days and please, drop by anytime.

One idea is to also change your clothes and wash your hands each day when you get home. Germs can be on your clothes and can lead to more illness.

I worked in a hospital until I retired. I kept disinfectant hand wipes in my desk (Wet Ones found in the baby area) and wiped my phone and doorknob every day, especially if sick people came in or whenever it needed it.

By the way, not having a high temperature isn't a true measure of infection. Viruses often cause no more than a low-grade temp (one degree) or even a sub-normal temperature like 97 or so.

I just had my 8Th round of Folfox this week and have had my platelet count decrease from the beginning. It got so low (84) that my oncologist reduced the Oxaliplatin by 20 ml. He was concerned about the platelets continuing to drop in addition to my bone marrow. Someone told me taking Papaya Leaf Extract tablets (found on amazon) can help increase platelets so I started taking them every day; 2 in the morning and 2 at night. As a result they have been increasing every round and I am now within the normal range at 162! Just ask your pharmacist if it is ok for you to try it. It is about $60 per bottle of sixty tablets. Good luck!
