Decision Point (I accepted the diagnosis and with the help of an amazing support group handled the treatment well.): The one thing I wish someone had prepared me for was that your life never is normal again. I expected to be back to my old self after the chemo and radiation was over. I have had to adjust and learn to live with my "new normal". For those just beginning this journey I encourage you to stay strong and positive, find support from loved one and friends and be prepared when you do not go back to the life you had prior to cancer. My faith in God was what helped me the most. The night before surgery I gave the journey over to Jesus and he helped me get through it.

Side Effects (Nerve damage (peripheral neuropathy)): I was allergic to the compazine they gave me to control the nausea prior to chemotherapy. I had nose bleeds every week I was on Taxol.
The chemo brain and confusion was not bad at the beginning but as I had more treatments it became worse and I still have problems now almost two years after treatment ended. I had problems with constipation but was able to handle with mild laxatives. As the chemo treatments went on I became very tired at the end of the week and just recovered in time to do the next weekly treatment. I had chills so severe at times I shook all over and used an electric blanket to warm me up. I started losing my hair on day 14 after chemo. I have lymphedema in my left arm and use compression sleeve every day and use a lymphedema pump daily. Mouth dryness was a major problem while on chemotherapy and continues today due to the medication I take for the neuropathy in my hands and feet. I did not have problems with neuropathy during chemo but developed it several weeks after I took the last treatment. I have been told the nerve damage is probably permanent.

Procedure or Surgery: Surgery went very well and my recovery was uneventful except for a minor problem with the drains.
