Radiation (External radiation ): My first round of radiation was 6weeks, monday through friday. the only real side effects I experienced was tiredness and a radiation burn on my left shoulder. the 2nd round was for 6 wekks and was started when my baby was 6 weeks old. Again I was very itred and had a radiation burn in my throat which caused difficulty swallowing and eating. all of this passed when the radiation was completed.

Oh No (Diagnosed): I was 33 years old and 4 months pregnant with my 3rd child when I was diagnosed. Everyone I had known with this diagnosis was deceased. All I could think of was will my unborn child ever be born and what if I didn't survive, who would take care of my family. I was terrified. Due to my pregnancy, the usual battery of diagnostic testing and staging could not be done. So doctors did what they could and worked on a "best guess" for the stage, deciding on nodular sclerosing Hodgkins Disease stage 2a. I did ask for a second opinion and went to Dana Farber, Jimmy Fund for this. I had been given a couple of options for treatment: 1. a minimantel of radiation while pregnant and then a splenectomy after my baby was born and then the rest of the radiation aftewr the splenectomy. 2. no treatment until the baby was born. I chose the first option.
