Celebration (Finished treatment): I finished treatment a year after my surgery. I went from seeing the dermatologist every 3 months to twice a year. I'm now 8 years cancer free and only go 1time per year. As I've gotten older, my parents started explaining my diagnosis and encouraged me to get active with the ACS and Relay For Life. They also have encouraged me to share my story with other Native Americans, especially the girls who tan.

You will love working with Relay For Life! I have been participating for 4 years now. I wish that I could get more involved with the planning committee, as I'm sure that there is a lot more that could be done to make the event more enjoyable for the younger people who attend. But if you've never taken part before, you should definitely look into it!

I was just honored with the Cherokee Nation's Distinguished Spirit of Life award. It's for a survivor who makes a significant contribution in cancer prevention, education, or care within my tribal nation. Many of my fellow Natives don't realize our significant risks of skin cancer. We have the 2nd highest incidence but we have the highest death rates. Because most of us don't seek treatment sooner we tend to be diagnosed too late. It's my mission to spread the word as it is so easy to prevent!
