What has he tried so far? What is he currently taking?
I would hope that Ativan and Zofran are on list med list. I was on a nausea-producing drug for 5 years. What helped me was to carry Zofran with me at all times. If I felt nausea beginning, I would immediately pop a tab under my tongue and allow it to dissolve - just as heart patients do with nitroglycerin pills. Within 2-3 minutes it was gone.

Now, as to appetite, when I was in hospital post-transplant, I had zero desire to eat. I received Marinol (synthetic THC) for 3-4 days and it jump-started my appetite. After that, I discontinued it and ate on my own.

I hope that something here helps.

I have restrictions on what I can eat, having colon cancer. But I can eat what I like out of a list. I eat what I like or what tastes good to me at the moment. And I force myself to eat a little of a few things that I may not like to get nutrition in me. Of course, you can always use the nutrition drinks, maybe mixed in ice cream. I do that, it helps mask the bad taste.

I agree with po18guy. I had nausea and endless hiccups. The zofran helped some. But, when I went on Marinol, it all cleared up. By the way, hiccups were a way of life for several months. I hope this will give some relief.
