I want to let other ladies know that when I had the opportunity to attend my first reach to recovery meeting, sixteen women stood up and said they were experiencing a recurrence. Being 39 at the time and having 4 boys to raise, that didn't sit very well with me and I became very upset and agitated. One of the ladies who was also premenoposal who had a similar experience let me know that I could have a subcutaneous mastectomy on the remaining breast since my tumor had been diagnosed estrogen negative and was of a virulent nature. I want you to tell the ladies out there, that this is a definite option which had not been readily discussed by doctors. I am a 30 year survivor and since I had the subcutaneous, I haven't experienced a minute's anxiety because my chances of recurrence noticeably decreased from 25% to 5 %. Please let the ladies know that this is available.

Oh No (I now have lymphedema which appeared 32 years after my mastectomy.): I was living in Chattanooga TN at the time and had wonderful doctors, treatment and the wonderful benefits of a newly opened cancer center. My tumor was diagnosed as a Stage II adenocarcinoma (10 centimeters) I had lymph node involvement. My tumor was undifferentiate estrogen negative. I had a modified radical mastectomy required 8 rounds of chemo and radiation.
