I didn't have to have either chemo or radio because mine was caught at stage 0 and localized and non-invasive. I don't now how to advise you, but your doctor is right about not doing reconstruction until you have finished your chemo or radio. Seems those treatments can destroy what the doctor has done for you reconstructively. Get a second opinion, if you have to, but do your research and be sure of your decision before you do it. I had stomach fat put in for breasts, but it wasn't enough to make breasts so I am having silicone implants on the 24th of June. They have changed the way those things are made and they are not dangerous anymore of leaks. They are double walled and filled with a gel. So even if you did spring a leak the gel forms and clog and stays put where it is at and does not spread. They are softer than saline so you feel more natural. Good luck in whatever decision you make and know that getting a second opinion is probably a good idea, if you have doubts.

I agree with others, get another opinion before you make a final decision. Best of luck and keep us posted.

I may be having DIEP reconstruction in the fall. The appealing factors of it (to me, anyway) are that no muscle is used, just fat--and you get a tummy tuck besides. I've heard it is a BIG operation--about 8 hours of surgery--plus two more minor surgeries--but I've also seen photos of results and the breasts look very natural and stomachs are taut! That sounds good to me. (BTW, I can't have implants because I had radiation with my first breast cancer, 10 years ago) Good luck w/your decision process.
