I've had a remarkable journey! My response to the first three rounds of chemo was so good we cancelled the 4th, and began working up the SCT. My wife & I managed to attend both our high school class reunions during that summer & fall (2011). We also worked in a week's vacation in the Tenn mtns. I spent the minimal days in the hospital after my transplant, and was quarantined at home only 2 mos. In Feb, the dr told me I was in remission and he was releasing me back to my oncologist for follow-up. When I asked him if I had any restrictions he said,"No. Go live your life." I have returned to law enforcement on a part-time basis. My wife and I began a walking program recently, and I work in a run at the end of our walks (not far, not fast - but getting better). I've recently been appointed to serve on the IRB of the Cancer Center where I had my transplant. I take Revlimd each night, and gt a Zometa infusion monthly. After 2 yrs, if all is going well, that will be reduced to a quarterly Tx. My nurses told me that my attitude, strong faith, and having a world class medical team made the difference in my experience. The essay I wrote ("I Am Not A Patient") has been shared with many others, and is posted in a number of offices both in the hospital and in the Center. Thanks be to God, I'm doing well, and moving on!
