Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): Started oral chemo - a drug called Xeloda. Easier and with less side effects based on the studies and research I read. I am happy I can do this in the comfort of my home.

Updating my experience on Xeloda: I did not tolerate the drug well, extreme side effects that cause it to be interrupted at day 10 of 14 with 4000mg per day. I had fatigue, diarrhea, nausea, vomit, low appetite, hand foot syndrome, dry hair and brittle nails. The worst was hand foot syndrome which made it extremely painful to walk - I was placed at level 3 toxicity on this case. I was tested for PDP deficiency which turns out I don't have. After all side effects cleared 2 months later, we tried cycle #2 at half dose which I tolerated better - cycle #3 started and hand foot syndrome returned again to the point of preventing me from walking at day 8 so we interrupted the drug again. This time we decided to not try that drug anymore and try another form of 5-FU using IV. Someone had made a comment on another post being upset they had the port installed and not needing to use it. I can say I am glad I have it because it gives me another option for treatment. Still waiting to be cleared to start my new treatment protocol due to remaining side effects. Oncologist would like a clean baseline to be able to determine how the new treatment will affect me.

Decision Point (Treatment or not treatment): Medical industry is divided on whether to do treatment or not, I needed to educate myself better about my treatment options so I had stopped starting of the original treatment until I can understand better my options. My new Doctor explained everything more closely and openly with me, and provided me with different treatment options including the pill form. I am happier I took the time to understand my options which made me feel more in control again
