Celebration (Finished treatment): Finished treatment. Metallic taste gone. Taste returned. PEG tube out. Eating normally. Burns healed and skin itching ceased. Only residual side effect is a touch of lymphedema.

Radiation (External radiation ): The worst side effects occurred at about 2 weeks after treatments ended. I made it through 30 treatments and am back to eating everything in sight!

We had similar types of cancer, mine was squamous cell carcinoma of the right tonsil. Have you checked on your teeth? I lost all of my teeth due to radiation damage, also the radiation fried my esophagus and I've had it stretched once with another trip coming soon. I got to the point where I was choking on most everything I ate. I also had a TIA due to radiation frying my internal carotid artery on my right side. I missed a major stroke by luck.

Be careful of the side effects you don't see or haven't been told about! Take a look at our blog page for an article called The Hidden Side Effects of Radiation, it has a rundown of everything that has happened to me since mine 10 years ago. Hope you're doing good!

Decision Point (My decision point was after surgery trying to decide whether to have radiation and chemo.)

Procedure or Surgery (Surgery): I had a 13 hour surgery that involved a partial glossectomy, tongue reconstruction from arm flap, insertion of PEG tube and a Tracheotomy.
