Other Care (CAM (Complementary and Alternative Medicine)): she goes to a doctor trained in eastern and western medicine , to a acupuncturist, for massages, mani-pedis, facials, etc. She says that you feel your best when you look your best. Exercise like walking on the beach, yoga for cancer patients given by the hospital, pilates when she can. Both she and I periodically see a clinical psychologist specializing in cancer patients.

Drug or Chemo Therapy (Chemotherapy): She had a port placed since the cancer supposedly cannot be cured and chemo became part of our lives. She started with FOLFOX with Avastin -she was so sick that she lost 38 pounds in 12 weeks, lost her will to eat or do anything. She had a feeding tube placed for a short while. she stopped her chemo for 2 months to recover and to start over with a different oncologist and medical center. She was then given FOLFIRI with Avastin and tolerated the nest 12 weeks much better partially because we found ways to treat and cope with the symptoms and especially to stay ahead of them. She also went to the infusion center for fluids for 4 days after starting her 2 week chemo cycle.

Radiation (External radiation ): Had to drive 70 miles each way to UCLA for about 15 days in a 3 week period. Started radiation treatments right away- never told about a mouthgard for her teeth to protect them from radiation - so far two root canals and other treatments for the effects of the radiation. Headaches and radiation burns in area of tumor were somewhat uncomfortable.
