My father, 57, was diagnosed with Stage 4 Lung Cancer in mid-February. He was life flighted from a chest x-ray due to fluid surrounding and crushing his heart. The fluid tested for NSCLC and my father tested positive for the ALK gene mutation. His treatment has been on the ALK inhibitor, crizotinib. He had a substantial amount of nodules in both lungs and a large mass in his upper right lung. The crizotinib had miraculous results, resolving many of the nodules in both lungs or decreasing their size by half in only three months. The large mass in the upper right lung had doubled in size in those three months, biopsy shows that is a different kind of cancer. Radiation was started - 10 days has turned into 6 weeks. Oncologist appointment tomorrow for more information on the biopsy results and moving forward with treatments.
