This is Danny Underwood's oldest daughter. My dad is in the hospital. The doctors are saying that his system is shutting down and probably will not make it to tomorrow. He has conjestive heart failure and fluid building up in his lungs.
Oh No (Cancer has spread/Metastasized): I have been having a problem with fluid retention. I started having problems breathing after walking a short distance (no more than 5 feet). My oncologist had me have a CAT Scan done. The doctor called that day with the test results and had me schedule an appointment in the lab for the next day. They removed 3.1 Liters of fluid from my left lung (where the cancer is). The cancer has spread to my lymph nodes and a new mass of cancer next to old one. The cancer is in the upper lobe of left lung and the new mass is next to the airway. Today the oncologist started me on a new type of chemo Cisplatin and Irinotecan injection. The oncologist is talking about what to do if the fluid returns. He said that they could put me in the hospital and drain the fluid and insert a powder in the bag surrounding the lung to make it inflame and fuse together with the lung.
This is the what CAT Scan results showed:
Development of a large left pleural effusion with only a small amount of aerated lung in the left upper lobe. There is a 3.1 x 2.4 cm mass in the medial lingula with postobstructive atelectasis. Left upper lobe lung mass is again seen but has increased in size., measuring 3.8 x 2.7 cm. Calcified granuloma in the right lower lobe. Right lung is otherwise clear. There is a large left retroperitoneal mass, just medial to the left adrenal gland measuring 6.0 x 4.5 cm. This has significantly increased in size and is consistent with metastatic lymphadenopathy. Numerous additional enlarged retroperitoneal and retrocrural lymph nodes.
Oh No (Diagnosed): In August 2010 I went to the ER because I was having pain in my lungs. The ER doc ordered x-rays and told me that my chest was clear. The next day I received a phone call that the doctor had read the wrong x-ray and that I had pneumonia, and that I needed to get antibiotics filled. I finished the antibiotics. A friend was in the Sullivan, MO hospital and I wasn't feeling good so I went to the ER there and I told them what the Rolla ER had said and was giving antibiotics. After I finished that set of antibiotics I had started coughing up blood. My oldest daughter made me go to the ER. After the ER doctors had run x-rays they came into the room and said "Sorry Mr. Underwood but according to the x-rays the spot has not shrunk, it has gotten bigger, it is not pneumonia, it is cancer."
Wondering if there is any life insurance I can get. I have stage 4 lung cancer and have had it for a little over a year. I want to make sure than my family is taken care of if something happens to me. I live in Missouri.
