reconstruct at time of surgery. Make sure that you find a competent plastic surgeon to do the work.

have reconstruction done same time as surgery. Make sure that you find a competent plastic surgeon . If you are in my area my recommendation would be Dr. Doug Ramos

Like JennyMiller, I have had bilateral mastectomy, (cancer side in April 2012, and non-cancer side jan 2013), and no reconstruction. I have no regrets. I work in a doctors office , and have seen women with reconstruction who are miserable. Their "boobs" are not pretty. I have seen some women with great looking "boobs" who have chronic nerve pain. I have no pain. I do have sensation over my chest. My husband is happy with my decision. He did not want me to have reconstruction b/c of all of potential risks and complications. And some women look great , and have no pain. iOh, by the way, I read an article while waiting to see my onc, about the actress Ann Jillian. She had breast cancer about 20 years. She had bilateral mastectomy without reconstruction. So, it is a personal decision. Good luck!

Decision Point: Just found out I have Paget's disease. Thought I was at six month remission instead facing double masectomy. Trying to decide on reconstruction option. Feeling very overwhelmed & exhausted..

I am also going through similar circumstance...I do not want recon until after healing and treatment are over, but I think they will have a plastic surgeon involved so it is done with that option in the future will be possible. Friend had the Tram (tummy tissue)done and has been very pleased with results.

Has any one had mastitis after radiation?

Deb949, Post-radiation bacterial mastitis is not rare in breast cancer, so it does happen. It would help if it was cultured to find the source of the infection. Unfortunately, I cannot say that it does not recur, a lot depends on the severity and the source. You will have to let time dictate whether it does indeed return. Best of luck to you, Carm RN.

Hi Deb, A tip about the site: Stuff that you post on your own home page like status updates or experiences are generally only seen by those who are following you. So the more appropriate place to respond to questions and answers posted in that section is in that section not on your home page or other members home pages/walls. That way you can respond to multiple answers in one post visible to all of them without having to go to each individual's/home page wall.
