To those of you who are on Statin drugs be very careful. That drug does damage to your muscles that cannot be reversed. I was on it for a while and I have fibromyalgia and I was hurting so bad I couldn't walk. I have controlled my cholesterol by taking Slo-Nician and Magnesium before I go to bed. Been doing this for three years now and my cholesterol has gone from 324 with HDL 36 and LDL 234. Now I check out at Tricylcerides are at 195, HDL is 56 and LDL is 170. Still working on getting that one down. I just cannot take any statin drugs at all. My husband was put on it and had been taking it a month when he started complaining of his muscles hurting, My Aunt, who was very knowledge about this stuff, told my husband to stop taking it and then told him of the side affects. He stopped that day and it took 2 months for his muscles to stop hurting. Doctor now has him on Fenefibrate. He is doing well with one.

Met with my MO today, and she said it should be my PCP’s decision to do a lipid panel. My husband, a cardiologist, is a huge believer in statins and takes one himself (despite being heart-healthy at 66), but my PCP is not. He put me on atorvastatin in 2013 and though it lowered my total cholesterol, LDL and trigycerides, it also lowered my HDL slightly (though they were still high). It also spiked my glucose and a1c into the “metabolic syndrome/prediabetic” range. More importantly, I began getting thigh-aches after biking, so he stopped it. Turns out my Framingham (10-yr % of likelihood of cardiovascular event) score was only 6. So no statins for me--I’ll do niacin & oat bran if I have to. As to metformin, my MO says the research isn’t in yet on it, and believes in lifestyle modifications for pre-diabetes.

If I absolutely cant sleep I use Melatonin. Its a supplement you can buy over the counter and not something that is a prescription.

So, last night we got home from church at around 9:00 p.m. I knew I was going to have problems going to sleep because I normally take my night time meds at around 8:00 to 8:15 p.m. So I went through my cupboards looking for a tea that was relaxing and found I had a box of Celestial Seaonings Sleepytime Sinus Soother tea. I drank a cup of that along with my meds and by 10:30 I was ready to sack out. I did too. That is a great tea, if you are looking for something to quiet your nerves or mind. Helps your sinuses too.
