I had thick mucus during ang for maybe 2 months after treatments and every so often now. Use salt and baking soda mixture swish and spit or gargle if ya can. I had a suction machine when it was real bad.

If I don't have a dry mouth, then I am gagging up gobs of mucus. Docs prescribe me Ipatropium bromide nose drops. It's suppose to dry up your sinuses. Doesn't work that great! I take alot mucinex also trying to dry it up. It's annoying & I am sure disgusting to most. Also debster, I should have stock in Kleenex. About a box a day.

I have the same issue, It seems to get worse around seasonal changes but never goes away. Since I can only tolerate really soft foods and liquids I drink as much water as I can, and take Mucinex. It helps a little especially at night. I had a yankhour machine for a whu=ile but got used to clearing it myself after a year or so.Good luck.

What are they saying is the cause? Mine was the HPV virus - right tonsil primary. I am almost 11 weeks post treatment and feeling great considering how Draconian the treatments are. You can do this!!!

I went to see my oncologist today and he stated that it was HPV virus. and that was good and improved my prognosis.

33 IMRT radiation treatments and 5 (was supposed to be 7) chemo (cisplatin)....I was hospitalized the last 5 nights.....2 trips to ER for dehydration.....some home health hydration....but no feeding tube I gained 10 lbs pre-treatment (as recommended) and in total lost about 27 lbs (so really only 17)....I still can't taste but I force myself to eat solid food and found some high calorie shakes I can tolerate.....all I want for Xmas are my taste buds! You can do this!!! It sucks but the prognosis is very good:)

Two months post treatment - no taste buds but feel pretty good considering:) Facing Thanksgiving is tough.....being with food and with strangers is difficult. Family far away. Husband amazing but it is all on him. I plan on cooking him a huge special meal but I am so sad that he has to just stay with me. Trying to concentrate on the good...could use some pep talks! Thanks.....
