Oh No: My mastectomy incision opened up and my tissue expander was leaking from the opening. My plastic surgeon got me in right away. He drained some of the fluid from the TE, did an excision and repair on the scar, took a culture, and put me on antibiotics. If I don't get an infection I keep the TE and start chemo next week as planned; if I do get an infection I get surgery next week to replace the TE with the silicone implant.

Decision Point (Chemo or no?): My oncologist recommended "chemo lite" (12 weeks of Taxol and 1 year of Herceptin). I guess I will be starting treatments in a couple of weeks.

24 days after surgery and I finally got the last of my JP drains out! Love it!! Also got my TEs filled for the first time today. Ouch! Tomorrow is my first visit with the chemo doctor since they found the IDC in the mastectomy pathology. Not sure what to expect from that appointment. How soon did you start chemo after your first appointment with the oncologist?

I met with the oncologist before I had my surgery. I started chemo 3 weeks to the day after my double mastectomy. Hope all goes well for you.

My center said the Maximum time between surgery & beginning chemo is 3 weeks to the day. Don't delay, call them to schedule, just in case. We are here to listen & support you! Hugs, Barb
